Sacraments
Baptism
Adult baptism takes place at the Easter vigil after completing the 'Adults becoming Catholic' journey. The first sacrament of initiation into the faith community. Infant and child baptism takes place during a Sunday Mass or at 12:00 midday on a Sunday at St Peter Chanel and Sacred Heart. Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Havelock North maybe at a different time. A preparation session for baptism is held on the first Sunday of every month in the Sacred Heart church foyer at 3pm. Parents need to come to a preparation session with their child for the first two children. For a third child or fourth simply complete a baptism form at the parish office and set a date.
First Reconciliation and First Communion
Children 7 yrs and older can join preparation for these sacraments. The preparation is parish based and runs during October/November for First Reconciliation with the celebration in November. The following year the children will automatically be placed into First Communion preparation in March which is then celebrated in Eastertide. Parish and school newsletters carry details of registration for several weeks ahead. Our St Joseph's and St Mary's primary schools invite children to Baptim, First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
Confirmation
This is a sacrament of initiation into the mission of the Church. It is for young people 15yrs and over. Registration for the preparation programme takes place in June/July with the programme running in August and the celebration of Confirmation in September in one of the 3 parishes of Hastings.
Weddings
Weddings are by arangement with a priest. Please ring Fr Simon or Fr Vince, Ph: 878-7774 or Fr Pat Cooke Ph: 877-7124. Weddings need to be arranged six months before the celebration. It is essential that couples complete a marriage preparation programme. Preparation programmes are run in Hastings several times a year. Your priest will be able to supply more information when you meet to plan the wedding.
Anointing of the Sick

This Sacrament is celebrated approximately quarterly across the parishes within Mass. A lay Chaplain (currently Mrs Margaret Harding) visits and takes Communion to the sick in hospital, and will arrange for a priest to administer the Sacrament in hospital as required.
