85 Te Mata Road, Havelock North

Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) Church in Havelock North, designed by New Zealand architect John Scott and completed in 1960 with engineering by Len Hoogerbrug, combines grandeur and simplicity. Its distinctive design features a solid concrete entrance, metallic steeple, coloured acrylic glass panels, and a roof with wooden beams forming a star shape above the worship space. Modifications in the 1990s added a connecting structure, but the church’s visual impact remains.

OLOL has served Havelock North’s Catholic community for over sixty years, offering a place to celebrate sacraments, gather, and connect.
